Network Operations Tech (Graveyard)

General Job Description:
This is a skilled, technical work performed in the office providing supervision, leadership, and expertise in support, analysis, and maintenance of the fiber to the premise network. Core duties will include:
- Monitoring and maintaining the UTOPIA Fiber network infrastructure.
- Respond to network outages by troubleshooting and resolving network outages.
- Troubleshooting network issues with ISP and customers.
- Assisting with installations of business and residential customers.
- Ongoing skill development of yourself and the team by participating in postmortem analysis, training, independent learning as well as mentoring more junior technicians.
- Assisting other technicians, analysts, engineers, and managers with reporting needs.
- Notifying technical staff, management, and customers of issues that occur in the network infrastructure.
- Additional functions as necessary and directed by leadership
Preferred Employment Experience:
- Associates degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field
- NOC Tech 1: one year of job-related experience which must have included supporting a network system from a monitoring and configuration perspective; OR and equivalent combination of job-related education/experience (substituting one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience).
- NOC Tech 2: Either two years’ experience as a NOC Technician I; OR three years of comparable job-related experience which must have included supporting a network system from a monitoring and configuration perspective; OR an equivalent combination of job-related education/experience (substituting one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience).
- Senior NOC Tech: Either two years’ experience as a NOC Technician II; OR five years of comparable job-related experience which must have included supporting a network system from a monitoring and configuration perspective; OR an equivalent combination of job-related education/experience (substituting one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience).
Core skills we need in a candidate include:
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical people both verbally and in writing.
- Experience with software tools such as ticketing systems, chat and text systems, email systems, Microsoft Word and Excel or Google docs
- Understanding of the Layer 1-3 of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model
- Understanding of Layer 2 protocols such as RSTP, SPB, VLANs, ARP, MAC, etc.
- Experience with use of Telnet, SSH, traceroute, ping and other network support/troubleshooting protocols
- Experience with NMS (network monitoring systems) such as Solar Winds, Zabbix, OpenNMS, Zennos, Cacti, or Nagios
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to multitask in a high stressed environment
- Learn and keep current with technological advances
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and supervisors

Physical/Environment Factors:
- This work requires sitting at a computer for extended periods of time with some level of work taking place on the phone.
- Work shift includes swing, or graveyards including weekends and holidays; some overtime required.
